In the northeast span of the Ghostlands rests a ruined village known as Suncrown. Settled after the High Elves' landing in the Eastern Kingdoms, the village was once a prosperous locale. The community thrived with a self-sufficient economy, but was rather traditional and wary of strangers. It was all but forbidden to allow anyone into the village except for trade purposes.
Among the inhabitants was a paladin named Hannaven Dawnseeker. At the time, Hannaven was serving as foster father to a young elf named Kajaaris. But before coming to settle in Suncrown, the man had traveled the continents of Azeroth, gaining expansive knowledge in his wake. He did not share the village's xenophobic ways, and instilled in his young ward the same curiosity he possessed.
During a storm, Hannaven found an injured traveler outside of the village. He and Kajaaris brought the stranger back to their home for treatment, against the wishes of the village elders. Kajaaris had a lingering feeling of doubt about the stranger, but dismissed it as paranoia once the man told the pair about himself. His name was Narae'thul, and he claimed to have recently returned from the Outland.
While still harboring a sense of unease about the newcomer, the young Kajaaris listened in awe to his tales of the other realm, all of which filled her with even greater curiosity and wanderlust. Under the guidance of her adoptive father, Kajaaris departed on her own journey to see the world. For ten years, she traveled, learning abut the world and the people in it, as well as honing her skills to become a hunter.
Enriched by her journey, Kajaaris made her way home, eager to share her adventures with Hannaven.
But the village was no more.
Narae'thul, the stranger they had helped, was a Death Knight in the service of the Lich King. He betrayed their kindness, and the elves' safe haven was invaded by scourge as soon as the Lich King learned of its location. Devastated and overcome by guilt, Kajaaris fell into a deep fugue state. It was only when one of the lingering fiends nearly killed her that she realized she could stay in the ruins no longer.
Eventually, she found her way to Orgrimmar, where she made a small living supplying game to a butcher. Her life felt purposeless, and the wanderlust that once consumed her transformed into a crippling sense of self-doubt.
